Today we on the production and marketing side of Scotch Mountain Meats
spent the day rounding up all the seeding and tillage equipment. It was
all cleaned and inspected so replacement parts could be ordered and repairs
can be made prior to storage and next years round of tilling and seeding.
We were also able to collect a few pieces of our haying equipment to
prepare them for the first cut of hay. We anticipate that within the
next 2-3 weeks we should be well into first cut and possibly dispersing
our stocks of solid manure that build up over the winter feeding program.
We are also pleased to say that with the busy summer season upon us
as well as increased consumer demand for our quality product, two of
our neighbors and fellow producers have decided to come onboard. It was
an easy decision for the directors at SMM because these individuals were
already known to us and were already adhering to some Scotch Mountain
Meats strict protocols and regulations. Therefore it was an easy transition
for them and for us. We are very pleased to bring onboard deserving neighbors
of the business as it helps maintain the Scotch Mountain Meats goals
of; Self sustainability, delivering a quality local product to the local
people and the maintaining of traditional farming practices.

All of the spring sowing is now complete. I have over 50 acres of mixed
with field peas in as well as 20 acres of barley. Only a few weeks before
the first cut of hay should be coming off and baled or put into the silo.
Last week we shipped a small group of our February lambs. Despite being
in the field cultivating and sowing we were able to pick out the best
of the lot so far and send them to our processing facility. We hope you
will enjoy them as much as we do here at Scotch Mountain Meats.

With spring finally starting to rear its head I have been able to begin
my spring tillage program. We are only a month late due to the wet and
cold weather we have had thus far but hopefully we are over the worst
of it. I look forward to having all my crops (mixed grains, field peas
and barley) sowed within the next week or so.
All the lambs that were born in February are starting to really take
form. They are all taking well to the spring feeding program and soon
should be able to go to market and ultimately your table. Check back
for the latest on our spring lamb.
