Welcome to Scotch Mountain Meats!

Where did the time go?  I can’t believe it’s already August.  This has been a frustrating summer so far in regards to the wet weather from the production aspect of our business.  We are slightly behind schedule in cutting hay.  The weather has not been very cooperative so far but hopefully we will soon be getting a nice stretch of warm, dry weather and we will be all caught up!  Thankfully we were lucky to bring in the majority of our 1st cut at the beginning of June, which was high in protein and of excellent feeding value.  On the positive side in regards to this damp weather, our cereal grain crops are doing extremely well.  Our livestock is happy and contend and we are very pleased to hear the great feedback we are receiving from our customers with the outstanding taste of our products.

We have acquired a portable credit/debit machine, for your paying convenience, and it has come in very handy so far at all the Farmers’ Markets we attend.  Speaking of Farmers Markets - we had to make some changes to our weekly Farmers Market routine.  We can now be found on Wednesdays at the Rogers Center Farmers Market in Toronto which runs from 2 pm to 6.30 pm, July and August only.  Unfortunately we had to drop the The Apple Tree Farmers Market and the Guildwood Village Farmers Market, both in Toronto on Thursdays due to manpower and feasibility (we are a small business after all).  We are still at the Meaford Farmers Market on Fridays, the Brickworks Farmers Market on Saturdays and the Liberty Village Farmers Market on Sundays, both in Toronto.

In other news, we are especially proud to have passed the ‘food critics’ taste test with flying colors.  As mentioned in our previous newsletter we supply our product to a new restaurant called ‘Union’ on Ossington, where Chef Teo Paul has created a masterpiece of rib eye for two!  Congrats to chef Teo on your success as well as the rest of the hardworking ‘Union’ team to create a place of relaxation, positive atmosphere and superior local food.  Please feel free to read the complete write up in Saturdays’ Globe and Mail, August 1, 2009 titled - Having paid its dues, Union joins Ossington’s A-list, by Chris Johns, as well as in Saturdays’ Toronto Star August 1, 2009 in the ‘Weekend Living’ section, 'Union was worth the anxious wait'.

I would also like to take the opportunity to congratulate our local entrepreneur Christine Collins on her success of opening her long anticipated catering business here in Meaford – of course using Scotch Mountain Meats products!

If you have any comments or suggestions please feel free to send me an e-mail and I will try to answer it as soon as possible.

Thank you for your continued support of your local farmer and we look forward to serving you with the premium product that you have been accustomed to!

President
