Prairie-Style BBQ Beef Steak

1½ lb (750g)          Beef Marinating Grilling Steaks 1 inch (2.5cm) thick (approx 4 steaks)
¼ cup (50 ml)        Rye whiskey, brandy or apple juice
2 Tbsp (30 ml)       EACH soy sauce and vegetable oil
2                            cloves garlic, minced
2 Tsp (10 ml)         brown sugar
1 Tsp (5 ml)           EACH chili powder, dried thyme & coarsely crushed black peppercorns

  1. Combine whiskey, soy sauce, oil, garlic, sugar, chili powder, thyme and peppercorns in sealable freezer bag.  Add steaks to bag and refrigerate for 8 to 12 hours.
  2. Discard marinade.  Grill over medium-high heat for 6 to 7 minutes per side for medium doneness.
  3. Serve with grilled vegetables and mashed potatoes.

Tip: Just half the recipe if you are cooking for two.
